The content of the book is great. It presents history and theory of dream research: dreams physiology, dream content, dream function. It leaves the reader with a much better understanding of what goes on in our heads at night. The authors are obviously knowledgable and scientifically minded. It should get 5-stars for that.But, the writing itself not very engaging. If I hadn't found the topic so interesting, I might not have made it through the book. For example, the Freud-bashing in Chapter 2 really got old. I can accept their conclusion that Freud did a poor job of acknowledging and citing the work of people who came before him. But, repeating it over and over did not add value to my understanding of dreams, which is why I was reading the book.So, if someone is already interested in dreams, this book is worth reading. But, if someone is not sure if they are interested in dreams, I don't think this book will spark their interest.
